Families Sue to Recover Remains from Landfill

Mayor: Recovering 9/11 remains from landfill 'totally impractical' -- New York Newsday, August 18, 2005. "Mayor Michael Bloomberg estimates it would cost about $500 million to recover all Sept. 11, 2001, human remains from a Staten Island landfill and said he'll fight legal attempts to force him to undertake a renewed recovery effort. That response infuriated victims' families, who have filed suit in federal court in Manhattan, alleging the city failed to place barriers between demolition debris and material that was likely to contain body parts at the now-closed Fresh Kills dump."
